Many post mortems are being done and more will be done on the verdict of 2019 which has catapulted Narendra Damodara Das Modi to the level of god. And he deserves the accolades. He has along with Amit Shah has decimated the entire opposition leave alone the Congress. The opposition is clueless how to stop the Modi juggernaut. Barring Kerala and Tamil Nadu the saffron wave has swept the nation.
Modi and Amit Shah know the pulse of the people. That is why Modi treats the media with contempt. He knows addressing press conferences may satisfy a few but won’t get votes. His pliant chamchas in the media are doing the job for him, so why bother ?
The results show that India has transformed beyond one’s imagination. The country which rallied behind a man like Mahatma Gandhi has now turned itself into loving Nathuram Godse. The victory of Sadhvi Pragya, a terror accused against Congress heavyweight Digvijaya Singh with over 3.64 lakh votes clearly proves the mood of the nation. What lies in store for the country is the big question looming large as India reaches its 75th anniversary of independence in a couple of years.
The RSS agenda of one nation, one language has been given a strong endorsement by the country. The results have categorically reiterated that minorities particularly Muslims should remain as second class citizens. The most dangerous aspect of this result is that the agrarian crisis, unemployment, economy or the promised ‘vikas’ have become irrelevant. In spite of lack of jobs the youth of the country have chosen militaristic Hindutva nationalism.
No man in the history of this country was ever vested with so much power both in the party and government. Now, Modi has asserted his control literally on all institutions including the Supreme Court. The next five years are going to be ardous and tasking for the liberals or libertards as bhakths term them. The BJP is likely to aggressively pursue the Hindutva agenda including amending of the Constitution to declare India as a Hindu nation. Any challenge to such amendments might also be upheld by the Supreme Court. The opposition party leaders may face cases and raids to finish of the possibility of throwing a challenge.
The opposition parties were clueless and moneyless to face the BJP’s mighty onslaught. The so called Gadbandhan failed to work against the wave of Hindutva. With the polls turned in to one of presidential type, they were not able to project an alternative to take on Modi. The grand old party of India, the Congress became complacent and at times arrogant to stitch together an alliance that would have acted as a bulwark against the BJP’s election machinery. In most of the states where it was a direct fight between the BJP and Congress, the congress party has performed miserably.
Another dangerous aspect of this results is the death of the left. Its decline from 2004 has been very steep. With just 6 MPs in the current lok sabha, it has almost become irrelevant. Both the CPI and CPM failed to attract fresh cadres. The parties now look like an old age home where elders reminisce of days of glory. Due to their failure, the parliamentary debates of the current lok sabha is going to be colourless.
The only consolation of this results is the total rout of the saffron party in Tamil Nadu. BJP and Modi have failed to impress the Tamil Nadu voters and the state has voted against the national trend. In spite of the state being ruled by its too compliant alliance partner, the ADMK and the mega alliance they formed well in advance they failed to win a single seat barring Theni where around 200 crores was reportedly spent by the son of Deputy CM OPS.
But the surprising factor in respect of Tami Nadu is the poor performance of TTV Dinakaran’s AMMK. Though he started work as early as November TTV Dinakaran failed to make an impression. In several constituencies, his candidates polled votes below than Kamalhassan’s MNM and Seeman’s Naam Tamilar. Had he performed well, he would have been able to draw some more MLAs from ADMK. Due to this poor performance, his future looks bleak.
Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi Palanismy must be a very happy man. With just 8 MLAs required for his government’s survival, he has managed to win 9. Unless the Supreme Court decides the 11 MLAs disqualification case, his government will complete the full term till 2021.
The Modi – Shah duo would leave no stone unturned to crush the ‘tukde tukde’ gang or urban Naxalites. Left leaning liberal thinkers and writers would be silenced or imprisoned with some trumped up charges. Linguistic and religious minorities will have to live in fear until Modi reigns in on the Hindutva goons which is quite unlikely given Modi’s tacit support of lynch mobs.
The hope of gaining traction among the poor, Dalits and adivasis by fighting for their rights has been shattered. In most of the reserve constituencies across North India BJP has performed spectacularly. They all have identified with Hindutva and believe, Muslims are here to crush Hinduism. They all believe, Modi alone can save India from Pakistan.
Though gloom has descended on liberal voices, the fight has to go on for there is no alternative. Without getting disheartened, let us continue our fight to save the soul of India from turning into a viraat Hindu nation.
